12 new songs are now available from the Friday Afternoons Song Bank. Eight of the songs have been written by the composer Luke Styles and librettist Alan McKendrick, with four additional songs being created in collaboration with groups of young people across the country. These groups were Elgol Primary School and Bun-sgoil Shlèite, Isle of Skye; Thomas Wolsey School, Ipswich; Netley Primary School, London; and Elliott Kendall from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance.
In these new songs, the fantastical is melded with the mundane in a child’s view of an adult world. Scores and lyrics sheets are now available to download for free, with recordings and additional resources coming soon.
We look forward to seeing groups of young people across the world singing these songs. Some have already been performed by students at Netley Primary School and at the 2017 International Youth Choirs Festival in the Royal Albert Hall.
The songs will receive their premiere as part of the Aldeburgh Festival at Snape Maltings on Saturday 17th June. For tickets, visit the Snape Maltings website: https://snapemaltings.co.uk/whats-on/the-golden-vanity/
