Phoenix Chorale & Training

Details About the Event

Phoenix Chorale perform Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs, alongside a wide selection of repertoire for all tastes, including sacred, secular, gospel and jazz. Our younger singers, Phoenix Training also feature, performing a selection of fantastic new pieces by Nico Muhly from the highly acclaimed “Friday Afternoons” project Founded in January 2009 as an auditioned SATB youth choir, Phoenix Chorale provides opportunities for singers in the Cambridgeshire area aged 13 to 24 to rehearse and perform a wide ranging and constantly changing choral repertoire to the highest musical standards. Training were started shortly after this to offer young singers in school years 5 to 9 a chance to develop higher level skills in singing and general musicianship, in preparation for joining Chorale. In seven years the choirs have gained a reputation for exciting programming, and dynamic and versatile performances of large-scale choral works accompanied by orchestras and ensembles, music for the church liturgy, madrigals and part songs, arrangements of folk songs from around the world, vocal jazz arrangements and contemporary works. The organisation is directed by Julian Wilkins, assisted by a highly skilled team of musicians, including conductors, accompanists and vocal coaches.
