New Folk in Town - Day of Performance 2013

Details About the Event

The Creative Education Academies Trust commissioned HMDT Music to create New Folk in Town to commemorate the centenary of the British composer Benjamin Britten. This project culminated in a concert featuring Queen Eleanor Primary Academy Choir singing Britten's Friday Afternoon Songs. Using Britten's folk songs as an inspiration, students from the six CEAT secondary academies also worked with writer Stephen Plaice to develop the lyrics for their own, new folk songs based on local stories, before setting them to music with composer Richard Taylor. HMDT supplied resources to help teachers support the project with contextual information and activities.
